KIDS WILL LEARN BIRDS & BEES AT GARDEN CAMP

A different kind of spring break camp awaits area kids at Norfolk Botanical Garden. In addition to seeing the three American Bald eaglets up close and inside their nest, children will learn about the other 95 species of birds in Norfolk’s “big backyard.” Camp-certified counselors will lead youngsters down the food chain as they explore the creepy, crawly world of insects, including bee “language,” bug behavior and butterfly life cycles April 10th through 17th.

Children ages 5 to 10 will also learn the fundamentals of gardening, and take home a variety of plants to tend, including the National Herb Society’s 2006 Herb of the Year, scented geraniums, in their very own hand-painted flower pots.

Their scavenger hunting skills will be honed with a walk on the wild side, as they learn wildlife tracking skills to search for animals and identify their homes in the garden.

Norfolk Botanical Garden is host to a wide variety of reptiles, amphibians and mammals, including rabbits, muskrats, turtles, frogs and raccoons.

Camp is $155 per child NBG members/$180 per child for non-members. For registration or more information, call 757-441-5838 or visit our Web site, www.norfolkbotanicalgarden.org.

The mission of Norfolk Botanical Garden is to enrich life by promoting the enjoyment of plants and the environment through beautiful gardens and educational programs.  The garden is open to the public 365 days a year.  Visit www.norfolkbotanicalgarden.org for photos, hours, special events and other information.
