Norfolk Botanical Garden
A Natural Beauty.

Garden Facts
Renowned for its exceptional scenery and educational programs, Norfolk Botanical Garden is considered a premiere example of horticultural. The Garden dates back to 1938 when the Works Progress Administration sponsored 200 African-American women to clear the dense, native vegetation and plant 4,000 azaleas. Today, the Garden represents 155-acres of colorful landscapes, unusual flowers, mature forests and seasonal plantings and features one of the largest collections of azaleas, camellias, roses and rhododendrons on the East Coast. Open 365-days a year, the Garden is one of the only botanical gardens offering tours by foot, boat or tram.

Norfolk Botanical Garden is located minutes from Downtown Norfolk and Virginia Beach at 6700 Azalea Garden Road adjacent to Norfolk International Airport. Take I-64 Exit 279. Garden hours are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily and 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. through October 15th. Admission for adults is $6, seniors $5 and youth (6-16) $4. Children under 5 and MEMBERS get in free. Our Theme Gardens
Norfolk Botanical Garden hosts over 20 theme gardens. The Bicentennial Rose Garden spans 3.5 acres with over 3000 rose bushes consisting of some 430 varieties. The Bristow Butterfly Garden provides a habitat that attracts and supports butterflies and moths during all stages of their life cycle. The Virginia Native Plant Garden recreates four historic plant communities that once covered much of southeastern Virginia. The Sarah Lee Baker Perennial Garden consists of more than 200 diverse plant varieties and is full of color. Visit the Garden and explore these themed gardens and others all conveniently connected by paved walking paths.

Special Events
The Garden offers a wide variety of special events including History Alive! a weekend of live re-enactment that may make you forget what century it is, Coronation of the International Azalea Festival Queen in April, Spring Gardener's Market and Plant Sale and Birds and Blossoms an event for birders and naturalists. There is always something growing on in the Garden.

Throughout the year the Garden offers an exciting schedule of programs whether you are a garden enthusiast that wants to increase your skills or a novice who is just starting out. A schedule of programs is available here , calling 757-441-5838 or by e-mailing education@nbgs.org.
