NORFOLK
– Norfolk Botanical Garden 's newest member has taken its
first flights! Our baby American Bald Eagle took its first
steps out of the nest and soared into the sky last week.
On-lookers watched with awe as the baby flapped its massive
wings and flew into the air for the first time.
Our
newest addition hatched around March 19th and lives with
its parents in an 85-foot Loblolly Pine Tree adjacent to
Renaissance Court. The family's enormous nest can be seen
from several places in the Garden, but can be best viewed
from NATO Tower or from the Garden's boat tour. American
Bald Eagles rarely build their nests where they are visible
to the public, so this is truly a unique opportunity to
watch the young bird as it matures.
Don't
wait too long! The eaglet will leave the nest and head out
on its own for good sometime in the next six weeks.
