The days are getting shorter,

but there's always time to stop and smell the roses

at Norfolk Botanical Garden!

Rose garden

Norfolk, VA – As the days get cooler and the nights grow longer, Norfolk Botanical Garden will change to winter hours.  But on the bright side, the Bicentennial Rose Garden is in peak bloom!  Beginning Monday, October 16th, NBG will be open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily.  This weekend gates will be open until 7:00 p.m., giving you a little longer to take the time to stop and smell the roses!

The rose garden was dedicated in 1976 as a bicentennial tribute to the nation. This garden is accredited as one of 130 All-American Rose Selections Display Gardens.  More than 3,000 rose plants representing more than 430 varieties grow in this garden.  At the height of bloom, mid-May through October, more than 250,000 rose blooms can be seen – and smelled. This garden has an accessible terrace overlooking rest areas, fountains, and picturesque surroundings.

Along the banks of the canal is the All-American Rose Selections Test Garden, where 15 to 25 new varieties are evaluated each year.  Only 26 gardens in the country test roses for AARS.

Come on out and smell for yourself at Norfolk Botanical Garden this weekend -- where everything's coming up roses!
