Birds, Blossoms & Blues 2006

A celebration of spring, skies and song

Bird watching is one of the fastest-growing pastimes in the world –- and this year the Birds, Blossoms & Blues Festival at Norfolk Botanical Garden is taking that hobby to new heights.  This year we’re combining our awesome annual plant sale, the fascination with feathered friends, and the beats of blues and bluegrass to bring you four days of fun for everyone!

Kick off the weekend lounging on our lawn –- and listen to the sweet sounds of the John Baldwin Group, Smokin’ Joe Kubek, and Norfolk native Gary U.S. Bonds.  On Saturday, listen and learn during a musical workshop with Tommy Parker, or enjoy an hour with Shelly Potter.  Bring mom for more music on Sunday, with performances by Ted Doty and Tim Morgan.

Bird-watching will get wild when we treat you with trips you can’t take on your own.  Savor the skies and see hundreds of species of birds -- by foot or by boat.  Take classes alone or as a family, camp out overnight, learn about bird banding and rehabilitation, take a nature photography class, or kayak on Lake Whitehurst.  You can also see how to garden in small spaces or find out what to plant to bring the birds or butterflies to your own backyard.  We’ve taken the guesswork out of themed gardening –- our annual Gardener’s Market and Plant Sale will include plant packages with just what you need to build your own Habitat at Home®.

This weekend of fun takes off Thursday, May 11th –- don’t forget to bring mom for mother’s day brunch on Sunday – or pack a picnic and soak in the springtime!

To buy tickets or for a complete schedule of concerts, field trips, family classes or activities for kids, visit our Web site at www.norfolkbotanicalgarden.org or call (757) 441-5830.
