Attention parents & teachers:

get the kids to put down the DVD’s, PSP’s and MP3’s -- to make way for a fresh, fun and totally new interactive experience –

at the NBG!

WOW

WHAT: World of Wonders – A Children’s Adventure Garden is a 3-acre garden developed and designed entirely for kids – with a catch.  We want children to learn the connections between plants, international culture and the environment – but they’ll just think they’re having fun!

WHY: At Norfolk Botanical Garden, it is our mission to educate children about nature and plants to inspire future generations of creative gardeners and responsible citizens.

HOW: By providing a one-of-a-kind interactive adventure, WOW will pique curiosity, inspire creativity, and teach about the concepts of communication and cooperation.

WHO: Officially, World of Wonders is for children 4 to 14, and we’re focusing on families and field trips.  Unofficially, WOW will be a wonderful walk on the wild side, for the kid in all of us.

JUST FOR KIDS: Surrounded with a rainbow of bright colors, the Children’s Garden has swings, an enormous sundial, and a sea eagle’s nest so big you can sit inside.  You’ll find oceans of water to splash and slosh through, a colossal calendar and all kinds of creeping critters.  While you’re traveling the world in just 3 acres, you can also dig into the Dirt Factory, trace the trails of the great explorers, and wind your way through the twists and turns of the Inchworm Tunnel.  But that’s only the beginning of the tons of fun you’ll find!

JUST FOR PARENTS AND TEACHERS: World of Wonders is an unbelievable and unbeatable outdoor classroom.  It includes more than a dozen different environments many kids will never see except on TV.  In addition to science, your children will learn hands-on lessons in geography, history, math, economics, social studies, geology and art -- and they’ll learn how all these subjects tie together.  School programs within the Children’s Garden will be aligned with Virginia Standards of Learning.

WHEN: World of Wonders – A Children’s Adventure Garden is scheduled to open to the public Labor Day weekend, 2006.  Private preview tours are available now, by appointment only.

We’re providing the perfect place for kids to run wild, get wet, dig in and get dirty.

They’ll enjoy it so much they’ll never know it’s educational!
